Railtrail Tours runs this 8-day escorted tour to the Isle of Man, travelling by rail and ferry from the mainland and based for seven nights at the Ramsey Park Hotel. A Tour Manager accompanies the group throughout, and a rover ticket covers all of the island's railways, including the Manx Electric Railway and the Snaefell Mountain Railway, which climbs to the island's highest peak at 2,036 feet. Heritage days by private coach take in Peel Castle, built by Vikings, the House of Manannan Museum, the medieval Castle Rushen, the Old House of Keys, and the open-air folk museum at Cregneash. A horse-drawn tram ride along the Douglas promenade and a visit to the Manx Museum round out the sightseeing, alongside two free days in Ramsey for independent exploration. The trip suits travellers who want a mix of heritage railways, historic sites, and a relaxed single-base stay.

What to know before you look closer

  • Several sightseeing days, including the visits to Peel, Castletown, Cregneash, and Douglas, use private coach transfers rather than the island's railways, despite the tour's railway theme.
  • Days 4 and 6 are free days with no guided activities, though a Heritage Pass and Explorer Ticket are included for independent sightseeing.
  • Only two departures are currently listed, in June and September 2026.
