Great Rail Journeys · Escorted tour
Six-day heritage rail tour of Isle of Man from Heysham with three vintage railways.

Great Rail Journeys operates this six-day escorted tour of the Isle of Man, departing from Heysham, Lancashire, and staying five nights in Douglas. You travel by ferry across the Irish Sea, then explore the island aboard three heritage railways: the Isle of Man Steam Railway to the seaside town of Port Erin, the Manx Electric Railway to Ramsey via the fishing village of Laxey, and the Snaefell Mountain Railway, the only electric mountain railway in the British Isles, which climbs to the summit where views stretch to England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on clear days. The itinerary includes visits to Castletown (the ancient capital), Peel's 11th-century castle, the Old House of Keys (the former Manx parliament), and the Laxey Wheel. You stay at the 3-star Ascot Hotel in Douglas with a Tour Manager accompanying the group throughout. Day 5 is free time to explore using a 5-Day Explorer Pass. The tour suits repeat rail travellers, history enthusiasts, and couples seeking a relaxed pace with guided excursions and one unstructured day.
Your Isle of Man holiday starts by meeting the Tour Manager in Heysham, Lancashire. Here, you board the early afternoon ferry to the Isle of Man. As you sail across the Irish Sea, you could look out for seabirds and possibly dolphins, along with glimpses of the island. Enjoy views of the Isle of Man's rolling landscapes as you are transferred by coach to your historic hotel in Douglas where you spend the next five nights. Set a short distance from the seafront, the hotel has been a popular landmark in Douglas for more than a century and is the perfect base to explore the many attractions of the island. Dinner is served at the hotel restaurant.
