Illustration of Isle of Man Explorer 2027

Railtrail Tours' Isle of Man Explorer is a 5-day, 4-night escorted tour based at the Empress Hotel in Douglas for all four nights, reached by rail and ferry from the mainland. The tour is built around a rover ticket covering four heritage and electric railways. Day 2 rides behind steam on the Isle of Man Railway to Port Erin, then on to Castletown to tour Castle Rushen and the Old House of Keys. Day 3 takes the Manx Electric Railway to Laxey to see the Great Wheel of Laxey, continuing by tram to Ramsey and returning by electric railway and horse-drawn tram. Day 4 climbs the electric Snaefell Mountain Railway to the island's 2,036-foot summit before a steam ride on the narrow-gauge Groudle Glen Railway to Sea Lion Rocks. A Railtrail Tour Manager accompanies the group throughout, with bed, breakfast, dinner, and all admissions included. The activity level is described as Active, and this trip suits repeat rail travellers who want several distinct heritage railways covered from one hotel base.
