Travelling past icy fjords and through forests glittering with frost, on our journey aboard the Bergensbanen - one of Europe's most beautiful rail routes. Crossing the Arctic Circle and journeying to the very top of mainland Europe, where we'll have a great chance of spotting the Northern Lights.

Day by day

  1. Day 1overnight: Clarion Hotel The Hub (4-star)

    UK - Oslo

    Our nationwide shared chauffeur service collects you from home for your flight to Oslo. Upon arrival, transfer to your centrally located hotel.

  2. Day 2overnight: Clarion Hotel The Hub (4-star)

    Oslo

    We have the whole day to explore Oslo, starting with a three-hour guided city tour including a visit to the Fram Museum, home to the world's strongest wooden polar ship. The rest of the day is free to explore Oslo at your own pace.

  3. Day 3railovernight: Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz (4-star)

    Oslo - Bergen

    After an early breakfast, we set off for Bergen by train on Northern Europe's highest railway, over seven hours through snow-covered mountains, icy fjords and remote alpine villages, crossing the Hardangervidda mountain plateau at 1,222m. On arrival in Bergen, a guided city tour.

  4. Day 4overnight: Ship (Havila Capella)

    Bergen - Embark ship

    Free time this morning to explore Bergen, including the Floibanen funicular and the UNESCO-listed Bryggen wharf. In the early afternoon, we step aboard our Havila ship and begin a scenic voyage north towards the Arctic Circle.

  5. Day 5overnight: Ship (Havila Capella)

    Alesund - Molde

    Our ship makes 33 stops along Norway's coastline in total. Today brings an extended stay in Alesund, famed for its Art Nouveau architecture and the 418-step climb to the top of Mount Aksla.

  6. Day 6overnight: Ship (Havila Capella)

    Trondheim

    We dock in Trondheim, Norway's former capital, founded by Viking king Olav Tryggvason. A must-see is the Nidaros Cathedral, the northernmost medieval cathedral in the world.

  7. Day 7overnight: Ship (Havila Capella)

    Bodo - Svolvaer

    We officially cross the Arctic Circle, marked with a traditional ceremony on board, then head to Bodo before continuing to Svolvaer in the Lofoten Islands, prime territory for spotting the Northern Lights.

  8. Day 8overnight: Ship (Havila Capella)

    Stokmarknes - Tromso - Skjervoy

    We spend time in Tromso, an Arctic city once known as the 'Gateway to the Arctic', and a gateway to Sapmi, the homeland of the Sami people.

  9. Day 9overnight: Ship (Havila Capella)

    Hammerfest - Honningsvag (North Cape) - Berlevag

    This part of the journey takes you as far north as land and sea allow. Options include visiting the North Cape plateau, birdwatching, ice fishing, or trying to catch king crab.

  10. Day 10overnight: Thon Hotel Kirkenes (3-star)

    Kirkenes

    We say farewell to the ship and visit the extraordinary Kirkenes Snowhotel, with a guided tour and a chance to meet huskies and reindeer. The afternoon is free before a dinner at the hotel this evening.

  11. Day 11

    Kirkenes - UK

    We transfer to the airport and your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival, your vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
