The Maharajas' Express – Indian Panorama
10-day escorted Maharajas' Express Indian Panorama tour
Transindus · Tailor Made Tour
Ten-day luxury train journey across Rajasthan from Delhi to Agra

The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, operated by Transindus, is a ten-day luxury train journey across Rajasthan that departs from Delhi and concludes in Agra. This tailor-made tour combines eight nights aboard a fully equipped luxury train, complete with two bars and an onboard spa, with guided sightseeing at major cultural and historical sites. After flying from the UK to Delhi on Day 1, you board the train and travel to Jodhpur, where a private guide leads a morning walk through the old city's lanes to Mehrangarh Fort, perched on a hilltop with commanding views. Subsequent days take you to the royal City Palace of Udaipur, the temples and intricate stone carvings of Khajuraho, a game drive through Ranthambore National Park for tiger spotting, the ghats and temples of Varanasi on the Ganges river, and finally the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. Meals are provided throughout the train journey, and private English-speaking guides accompany you at each stop. A single hotel night in Delhi completes the experience before your return flight to the UK. This journey suits luxury seekers, history lovers, and those who prefer guided exploration without independent navigation.
Fly from the UK to Delhi.
Transfer to the train station and board the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels. Depart for Jodhpur at 18:30. Dinner is served onboard.
A morning tour through the old city's maze of streets and lanes towards the hilltop Mehrangarh Fort, with its Rajput miniature paintings, armoury and costume collections, and a commanding view from the ramparts. A quick stop at the Jaswant Thada cenotaph and a walk through the Sardar Bazar with its 1912 Clock Tower completes the half day tour. Lunch is at a palace hotel before returning to the train, departing for Udaipur at 16:00.
A half day tour of the royal city of Udaipur, erstwhile capital of the Mewar region, taking in the Sahelion-ki-bari (Garden of the Maids of Honour), the Jagdish temple and the City Palace complex with its Mor Chowk peacock mosaics. Return to the train and depart for Chittorgarh at 15:00, with time to explore Chittorgarh Fort, the largest in India, before departing for Sawai Madhopur.
Ranthambore National Park, near Sawai Madhopur, is an outstanding example of Project Tiger's conservation efforts, with tigers more often spotted by day here than in any other Indian park or sanctuary. Return to the train and depart for Jaipur, arriving at midday, then drive through the colourful bazaars to see the Hawa Mahal, the Jantar Mantar observatory built by Jai Singh, and the City Palace complex's collection of manuscripts, armoury, costumes and vintage cars.
The Khajuraho temples are a symbol of architectural grandeur, known for their exceptional stone construction, intricate carvings and idols including the erotic art and sensuous figures adorning several shrines. A guided sightseeing tour visits the more significant temples, followed by lunch at a city hotel.
The views of Varanasi's ghats and temples along the river Ganges, with pilgrims at prayer and performing ablutions in the sacred river. After breakfast, visit Sarnath, where the Buddha preached his message of the middle way to nirvana after achieving enlightenment. After lunch at a city hotel there is time for further sightseeing before boarding the train and departing for Agra.
A morning sightseeing tour of Agra visits the Taj Mahal, built in memorial of Mumtaz Mahal, Agra Fort with its Diwan-e-Am & Diwan-e-Khas, and the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah.
