The Maharajas Express is a luxury train operated by Discovery Trains that loops from Delhi through Rajasthan, the Taj Mahal, and Varanasi over nine days, with six nights aboard the train and stays at five-star hotels in Delhi at the start and end. Passengers in Deluxe cabins travel in anglophone group guides, while those in Junior Suites and Suites receive private francophone guides and drivers. The journey includes a champagne breakfast overlooking the Taj Mahal, an exclusive dinner at the Rambagh Palace, a safari in Ranthambore National Park for wildlife viewing, UNESCO-listed temples and palaces, and a boat cruise on the Ganges with an evening aarti ceremony in Varanasi. All meals on the train, site entries, and ground transportation between stops are included. The pace is relaxed, with two or more nights aboard the train at most stops, allowing time for optional activities such as spa treatments or additional sightseeing.

What to know before you look closer

  • International flights from Paris to Delhi are not included; Discovery Trains offers them on request.
  • The Deluxe cabin price is the entry level; Junior Suite and Suite cabins offer francophone private guides and cost from EUR 13,583.
  • Optional excursions at selected sites (spa, fort visits, dance performances) incur additional costs payable on board.

  1. Day 1overnight: Hôtel Palace Impérial 5* (ou similaire), Delhi

    Vol vers l'Inde

    Vol non inclus, proposé sur demande (Paris-Delhi environ 9h, Air France recommandé). Accueil à l'arrivée à Delhi, transfert et installation à l'hôtel Palace Impérial 5*, l'un des premiers hôtels de luxe de la capitale, ouvert en 1936.

  2. Day 2railovernight: À bord du Maharajas Express

    Delhi > Jaipur, la ville rose

    Embarquement à bord du Maharajas Express à la gare de Delhi Safdarjung avec verre de bienvenue. Départ vers Jaipur. Visite des galeries du City Palace (musée de textile, musée des armes et des arts). Dîner exclusif à l'hôtel Rambagh Palace, ancienne résidence du Maharaja de Jaipur (1835).

  3. Day 3railovernight: À bord du Maharajas Express

    Jaipur

    Excursion au Fort d'Amber (grès rouge et marbre blanc, 1592), chambre des miroirs (Sheesh Mahal) et hall de la victoire. Activités optionnelles : spa d'hôtel 5* ou exploration de la ville avec guide et voiture privés. Le train prend la route de Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore).

  4. Day 4overnight: À bord du train Maharajas Express

    Mumtaz - Fatehpur Sikri

    Safari dans le parc national de Ranthambore (tigres, ours, hyènes, léopards). Route vers Fatehpur Sikri, ville moghole désertée : salles d'audience, palais sculptés, site UNESCO érigé par l'empereur Akbar à la fin du XVIe siècle. Soirée indienne à bord.

  5. Day 5overnight: À bord du Maharajas Express

    Agra

    Arrivée matinale à Agra. Visite du Taj Mahal, mausolée de marbre blanc construit par Shah Jahan pour Mumtaz. Petit-déjeuner au champagne au Taj Khema face au Taj Mahal. Après-midi libre (spa, fort d'Agra en option). Route vers Orchha en soirée.

  6. Day 6overnight: À bord du Maharajas Express

    Orchha - Khajuraho

    Arrivée en gare de Jhansi, découverte du village d'Orchha et de son fort (années 1500), tour en tuk-tuk. Poursuite vers Khajuraho, visite des temples classés UNESCO (art Chandela, temple Kandariya Mahadev). Activités optionnelles en soirée : danse indienne, spa, spectacle son et lumière.

  7. Day 7overnight: À bord du Maharajas Express

    Varanasi (+ mini-croisière en bateau sur le Gange)

    Arrivée à Varanasi (Bénarès), l'une des plus anciennes villes au monde. Déjeuner à l'hôtel Taj Gateway. Visite des ruines de Sarnath (premier sermon de Bouddha), centre de tissage de la soie, croisière sur le Gange et soirée aarti sur les ghats. Dîner et spectacle de danse Kathak au palais Brij Rama (1812).

  8. Day 8overnight: Hôtel Andaz 5* (ou similaire), Delhi

    Départ de Delhi

    Derniers petit-déjeuner et déjeuner à bord. Débarquement l'après-midi en gare de Delhi Safdarjung. Transfert à l'hôtel Andaz 5* près de l'aéroport, temps de repos avant le vol retour prévu vers minuit.

    Vol retour

    Vol retour quittant Delhi vers minuit, arrivée à Paris vers 8h du matin. Fin du voyage.

Is all train travel included?
Yes. The price covers six nights aboard the Maharajas Express in your chosen cabin class, plus all meals on the train and entry to sites listed in the itinerary.
Are international flights included?
No. Discovery Trains recommends Air France for the Paris-Delhi route (approximately nine hours) and proposes bookings on request. This is booked separately.
Is the tour guided or independent?
Guided. Deluxe cabin passengers receive anglophone group guides. Junior Suite and Suite passengers have a francophone private guide and driver throughout.
What is included in meals?
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on board the train are included, plus beverages on the train excluding branded spirits. Off-train meals at specific sites (champagne breakfast at Taj Khema, dinner at Rambagh Palace and Brij Rama palace) are included per the itinerary.
How much walking is involved?
Days include guided walking tours of palaces and temples, tuk-tuk rides through villages, and a boat cruise on the Ganges. Optional spa visits and additional exploration are available.
When does the train run?
Discovery Trains operates departures in October, November, December 2026 and January, February, March 2027.
