4-day Norway rail journey through Oslo, Flam, and Bergen

Railbookers runs Oslo, Flam, and Bergen, a 4-day, 3-night rail, boat, and coach vacation. The trip begins with a night in Oslo, where the itinerary offers a choice of sightseeing, from the medieval Akershus Festning castle with its views over the Oslofjord to a boat trip out to the Bygdoy Peninsula. From Oslo, the Flåm Railway carries the journey to Flam, climbing nearly 3,000 feet in about an hour past rugged mountains, deep valleys, and thundering waterfalls on what is described as one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. A night in Flam is followed by a ferry, bus, and train into Bergen, where the colorful Hanseatic Wharf at Bryggen is a UNESCO World Heritage site. With one-night stops throughout, the trip moves quickly and suits travelers who want Norway's mountain and fjord scenery covered in a short window, with sightseeing left to their own choices along the way.
Welcome to Oslo! After checking into your hotel, spend the rest of the day exploring the cosmopolitan Norwegian capital. Head up to the Akershus Festning, a medieval castle which offers breathtaking views over the Oslofjord. Alternatively, visit one of Oslo's wide choice of museums. Take a boat out to the Bygdoy Peninsula for the highest concentration of these or stay in the center of town and see Edvard Munch's "The Scream" at the National Gallery.
After breakfast this morning, catch the world-famous Flam Railway to Flam. Ascend the Aurlandsfjord to the high mountain plateau of Myrdal. This incredible journey, which has been voted one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world, will have you passing rugged mountains, deep valleys and thundering waterfalls, providing simply awe-inspiring views. The train climbs nearly 3,000 feet in the hour it takes to ascend, and even stops at the amazing Kjosfoss Waterfall along the way. On arrival in Flam, check in at your hotel for an overnight stay and begin exploring this idyllic village at your leisure. Perhaps try some traditional Norwegian fare washed down with a regional beer at one of the local restaurants.
Enjoy breakfast and then catch a ferry, bus and train into Bergen. After checking into your hotel for the night, set out to discover the distinctly nautical sights of Norway's second-largest city, including the colorful buildings at the Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage site and now home to many of the city's best shops, restaurants and bars. Or take the Fløibanen funicular up to the top of Floyen for scenic walks and spectacular views of the city.
After breakfast this morning, check out of your hotel and continue with your travels. If you would like to extend your journey, perhaps with an additional day in a different city, one of our Rail Specialists would be happy to help you with all the details.
