Essence of Sognefjord

Oslo to Bergen via Flåm Railway and Sognefjord cruise, five days

Illustration of Essence of Sognefjord

Marvellous Escapes operates this five-day tailor-made rail and fjord journey across Norway, from Oslo to Bergen. The trip combines two of the country's most celebrated railways: the Bergen Railway, which climbs through mountains and over high plateaus, and the Flåm Railway, a steep descent engineered through waterfalls and alpine hamlets to the Aurlandsfjord. Day 3 shifts from rail to water, with a cruise along the Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway, past dramatic cliffs and village settlements. You stay in three hotels with breakfast, beginning in Oslo (a capital blending modern museums and historic waterfronts), then Flåm (a small village on the fjord), and Bergen (a historic port city with a coloured medieval wharf). The return journey to Oslo on Day 4 retraces the Bergen Railway through changing mountain scenery. Flights from the UK and all rail and boat travel are included.
