Illustration of Jungfrau Railway

Fred. Holidays operates a rail excursion to Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe at 3,454 metres, known as the Top of Europe. The journey climbs through the Lauterbrunnen Valley, which contains 72 waterfalls, using three heritage railways: the Wengernalp, Bernese Oberland, and Jungfrau Railways. The route passes the dramatic North Face of the Eiger and the Mönch peak. At the summit, visitors explore the Sphinx Observatory with its 360-degree panorama, an Ice Palace, and Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven, with views across the Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps. The trip starts from multiple gateways: Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, or Mürren. This is a high-altitude experience, with the operator noting it is not suitable for travellers with breathing or heart conditions. The Eiger Express gondola from Grindelwald to Eigergletscher is available as an optional add-on.
