Railtrail Tours' Welsh Whisky, Mines, Mint & Steam is a 6-day escorted tour based at the Majestic Hotel in Cardiff for all five nights, with a Tour Manager accompanying the group throughout. Rather than changing hotels, the group takes day trips by rail and coach: a visit to St Fagans Museum and the Royal Mint Experience followed by a guided Welsh Mining Experience at Rhondda Heritage Park on day 2, a rail journey to Chepstow and a nine-mile heritage steam run on the Dean Forest Railway on day 3, and a narrow-gauge steam trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway to Torpantau in the Brecon Beacons followed by a tasting at Penderyn Distillery on day 4. Day 5 is left free to explore Cardiff Castle, the National Museum, and Bute Park. The operator rates the activity level as Moderate. This suits travellers who want Welsh heritage, steam railways, and a whisky tasting handled as a group, without repacking for a different hotel each night.
