8-day Italy rail trip from Rome through Florence to Pisa

Illustration of Rome, Florence and Pisa

Railbookers operates this 8-day, 7-night rail vacation across Italy, starting in Rome and ending in Pisa. The first three nights are spent in Rome, beginning at your own pace with gelato on the Spanish Steps, then a guided tour of the Vatican Museums, St. Peter's and the Sistine Chapel, plus time at the Colosseum. A high-speed train carries travelers to Florence on day 4 for three more nights, including a city tour past the Duomo Basilica and free time to browse the San Lorenzo Street Market. On day 7, a regional train continues to Pisa for a final night, with the Leaning Tower and the city's Romanesque buildings and piazzas to explore before departure. With only two scheduled tours across the whole trip and several days marked 'at your own pace,' this suits travelers who like a fixed rail and hotel structure but prefer to plan their own sightseeing each day.

What to know before you look closer

  • The evidence pack lists no specific departure dates for this trip; confirm availability with Railbookers.
  • Only one night is spent in Pisa at the end of the trip, so time to see the Leaning Tower and surrounding sights is limited to a single evening and the following morning before checkout.
  • Beyond the Vatican tour and Florence city tour, most days, including day 1 in Rome and day 6 in Florence, are described as 'at your own pace' with optional suggestions rather than guided activities.
