Vancouver to Calgary through Canadian Rockies on Rocky Mountaineer train

Great Rail Journeys operates this 10-day independent journey from London through western Canada, featuring two days aboard Rocky Mountaineer, the country's premier scenic train. The trip spans from Vancouver's coast through the Canadian Rockies to Banff, with stays in Lake Louise, one of the most photographed lakes in North America. You begin with two free days exploring Vancouver, its Gastown district, Stanley Park, and Chinatown at your own pace. Days 3 and 4 are devoted to Rocky Mountaineer, travelling through British Columbia's lush green forests and into the Rockies in glass-domed cars; Day 4 passes Craigellachie, mountain passes, and tunnels before arriving in Lake Louise. Two nights follow at Lake Louise, with a day of leisure and a guided coach excursion to Yoho National Park featuring Emerald Lake and Kicking Horse River. In Banff, a sightseeing tour includes Bow Falls and the Banff Gondola, with another day free to explore the town independently. This package suits independent travellers, repeat rail passengers, and those seeking a mix of scenic train travel and self-guided exploration of mountain resort towns.
Your Canadian journey begins with a flight from London Heathrow to the scenic Canadian city of Vancouver. On arrival, your transfer will take you to the hotel where you can begin to get acquainted with the city independently. For a taste of Vancouver's old-world charm, visit Gastown, the city's original downtown. Stroll through pretty Maple Tree Square, where redbrick Victorian buildings dot the tree-lined streets. Enjoy the coffee shops, art galleries and upmarket fashion boutiques, and look out for the famous Gastown Steam Clock. Vancouver has a lively food scene, and for dinner, you might like to try western Canada's top-class seafood like salmon, oysters and Dungeness crab.
