This perfect Norwegian holiday includes a fjord cruise, some stunning scenic trains and a journey on the famous Flam Railway.
Leave from St Pancras aboard a Eurostar service bound for Brussels. Check in at the conveniently situated Pullman Brussels Midi (or similar), adjacent to the station, for an overnight stay. The historic centre of Brussels, with its cobbled streets, cathedral and Grand Place, is worth a visit.
Return to Midi station and catch an ICE service to Cologne, then change again on to Hamburg. Check in for an overnight stay at the Reichshof Hamburg Hotel (or similar), a short walk from the Hauptbahnhof.
Continue north to Danish capital Copenhagen, with time for a bite to eat, before boarding a second train across the border into Sweden. Arrive into the university city of Gothenburg this evening and check in for an overnight stay at the First Hotel G (or similar).
A short rail journey takes you to Oslo, where you check in at the Thon Opera Hotel (or similar) for a 2-night stay. Capital of Norway since the 14th century, Oslo is made up of diverse architectural styles and distinct districts.
Highlights of Oslo include the elegant Royal Palace and the Viking Ship Museum, with two Viking ships over 1,000 years old. In summer, relax on one of the beaches in the Oslofjord or people-watch at a café.
Leave Oslo early on a train to Myrdal, the mountain station where you board the famous Flåm Railway, with panoramic views of the Norwegian fjords. Check in at the Flåmsbrygga Hotel (or similar) in the village of Flåm on the valley floor of the Sognefjord.
A morning at leisure, then after lunch board a cruise boat along the Aurlandsfjord to Gudvangen. From there, travel by bus through villages and landscapes to Voss, then by train from Voss to Bergen on the last stretch of the famous Bergen Line. Check in at the Clarion Admiral Hotel (or similar) for a 2-night stay.
Norway's second city was an important trade hub in the middle ages and a member of the Hanseatic League; the remaining wharf buildings are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take the funicular up Mount Fløyen for panoramic views, or visit the Edvard Grieg House.
After breakfast, make your way to the airport for a return flight to the UK, or continue exploring more of Scandinavia by train.
