11-day independent rail trip from Munich to Rome via four cities

Illustration of Munich, Salzburg, Venice, Florence, and Rome

Railbookers runs this 11-day, 10-night independent rail vacation across five cities in three countries, starting in Munich and traveling by train through Salzburg, Venice, and Florence to Rome. Each city gets a two-night stay, and every stop but Salzburg includes a small group city tour: Munich's Glockenspiel and Frauenkirche Cathedral, Venice's Doge's Palace and St Mark's Basilica, Florence's Accademia Gallery with Michelangelo's David, and Rome's Colosseum and Roman Forum. Salzburg instead adds a half-day guided day trip to the lakeside village of Hallstatt. Between Salzburg and Venice, the train crosses the Arlberg Pass through the Austrian Alps, and the Florence to Rome leg runs on a high-speed service. Because travel between destinations is independent, these guided tours sit alongside free time to explore each city at your own pace. It suits travelers who want a long rail trip spanning Bavaria, Austria, and Italy with a guided introduction built into every stop.
