Little Trains of the Pyrenees

Escorted Pyrenees rail tour from Roses on four heritage trains

Illustration of Little Trains of the Pyrenees

Leger Holidays' Little Trains of the Pyrenees is a 9-day escorted coach and rail tour that bases you for six nights in Roses, a resort on Spain's Costa Brava, and takes you on four heritage railway journeys through the Pyrenees. On Day 3 you board the Roses Express to Cap de Creus Nature Park. Day 4 carries you on the Little Yellow Train through forests from Villefranche to Mont Louis, though if you travel in April or October when the train is undergoing maintenance, Leger Holidays substitutes a boat trip on Lake Banyoles and a ride on the little town train in Besalú. Day 5 features the Núria Valley Rack Railway, which climbs more than 100 metres over 12 kilometres to reach the Sanctuary of Núria high in the Eastern Pyrenees. On Day 6 the Red Train (the Train du pays Cathare et du Fenouillèdes) carries you through vineyards to Axat; parts of this railway have operated since 1901. Day 7 is free in Roses to relax on the beach or explore the 16th century Citadel. The tour suits repeat rail travellers, couples, and history lovers who appreciate guided travel with local experts and a base from which to explore.
