Alpine rail trip through Munich, Salzburg, and Innsbruck

Railbookers runs this 7-day, 6-night rail journey through Munich, Salzburg, and Innsbruck, spending two nights in each city with first-class rail travel connecting them. Day 2 in Munich combines a hop-on, hop-off city tour with a two-hour walking tour past the Glockenspiel, Frauenkirche Cathedral, and the English Garden. The train carries you to Salzburg on day 3 for an afternoon Sound of Music Tour, and day 4 is left free to explore the UNESCO-listed Baroque Old Town, Mozart's birthplace, and Festung Hohensalzburg. On day 5, the train continues to Innsbruck, where a round-trip cable car climbs to the Nordkette for views of the Austrian mountains. Day 6 closes with a guided tour of Innsbruck's Gothic city centre, the Golden Roof, and the Hofburg. The trip suits travelers who want a straightforward, guided route through three Alpine cities without long overland transfers.
Upon arrival in Munich, check in at your hotel for a two-night stay.
After breakfast, use your included hop-on, hop-off bus tour ticket to explore the sights of the city including Marienplatz, National Theatre and the Hofbrauhaus. In the afternoon, you have an included two-hour walking tour of the city taking you to sights such as the Glockenspiel and Frauenkirche Cathedral, and the stunning English Garden.
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel and then take the train from Munich to Salzburg. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. This afternoon, you will enjoy a Sound of Music Tour showing the sights and filming locations with an experienced tour guide.
Enjoy an additional day discovering Salzburg at your leisure. Perhaps visit the birthplace of Mozart, now a museum dedicated to his life and work. The city's Baroque Old Town is UNESCO World Heritage listed and dominated by the massive Festung Hohensalzburg.
After breakfast, make your way to the station for the journey from Salzburg to Innsbruck. On arrival, check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. This afternoon enjoy breath-taking vistas of the Austrian mountains with a round-trip cable car ride between Innsbruck city centre and the Nordkette, visiting a cable car station designed by Zaha Hadid.
Today enjoy this interesting and varied tour where you will discover the most important sights of Innsbruck: the Gothic city centre, the Golden Roof, the imperial court church with the Hofburg, the city tower, and the cathedral to St. Jakob, then stroll through the baroque Maria Theresien Street.
After breakfast this morning, check out of your hotel and continue with your travels. If you wish to extend your journey, perhaps with an additional day in a different city, one of our Rail Specialists would be happy to help you with these arrangements.
