Independent rail trip from Venice to Rome, 7 days

Railbookers runs this independent rail vacation across 7 days and 6 nights, starting in Venice and ending in Rome. The first three nights are spent in Venice, where a small-group tour visits the Doge's Palace and St Mark's Basilica, a separate guided walking tour explores the city's quieter lanes, and another small-group excursion visits the lagoon islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello. On day 4, a train carries travelers past Italian villages and rolling countryside to Rome Termini for a three-night stay, where included small-group tours cover the Roman Forum and Colosseum on one day and the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St Peter's on another, with the Vatican tour not running on Sundays. Breakfast is included throughout, and afternoons are largely left free for independent exploring, aided by a Vaporetto pass in Venice and a hop-on, hop-off tour in Rome. The trip suits travelers who want two major Italian cities with a mix of guided history and unstructured time.
Welcome to Venice! Upon arrival, make your way to your hotel in Venice and check-in. The rest of the day is yours to explore at your own leisure, with the use of your included Vaporetto Pass you can easily navigate your way around the city and stop for somewhere to dine and enjoy some local cuisine!

After breakfast, sit back and relax on your journey to Rome. Pass quaint Italian villages and rolling fields before arriving at Rome Termini. On arrival, make your way to your hotel and check in for a three-night stay. Italy's capital city since the country's unification in 1861, Rome was also once famously the capital of a huge empire which at one time stretched from southern Scotland to the Caspian Sea. There are plenty of remnants of this empire to see all over the center of the city.
