Experience the best of Norway by rail and sea on a breathtaking journey from Oslo to Alesund and the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord.
Your Scandinavian rail adventure begins today with a flight from the UK to Norway's vibrant capital, Oslo. Upon arrival, make your way to your hotel and settle in for the night. Depending on your arrival time, take the opportunity to enjoy a short stroll through this modern yet historic city, perhaps along the waterfront at Aker Brygge or a visit to the iconic Oslo Opera House.
Leave the city behind as your rail adventure begins with a journey north from Oslo to Dombas, travelling along the dramatic Dovre Railway. From Dombas, board the legendary Rauma Railway for a breathtaking ride through towering mountains, deep valleys, and cascading waterfalls to Andalsnes, known as the gateway to the fjords. From Andalsnes, continue by bus along a scenic route through fjordside villages and winding coastal roads to the vibrant seaside town of Alesund, famous for its art nouveau architecture.
Today's journey is a true highlight as you set sail on a spectacular fjord cruise from Alesund to Geiranger. Glide through the crystal-clear waters of the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its steep cliffs, tumbling waterfalls, and unspoiled natural beauty, cruising past landmarks such as the Seven Sisters and Suitor waterfalls. Upon arrival in the peaceful village of Geiranger, enjoy time to soak up the views or take a gentle walk along the waterfront.
Begin your day with another stunning fjord cruise, this time sailing from Geiranger back to Andalsnes, offering a fresh perspective on the majestic Geirangerfjord. From Andalsnes, board the Rauma Railway once again for a final chance to admire its spectacular views on the journey to Dombas. Here, connect to the Dovre Railway for a comfortable and scenic ride back to Oslo, travelling through mountain plateaus, deep forests, and river valleys.
After breakfast, check out of your hotel, and head to Oslo airport for your return flight back to the UK. If you would like to explore more of Norway, speak to your Travel Designer.
