    Valencia

    Train to Valencia (4 hours). Highlights: marvel at the modern architecture along the old Turia riverbed; taste real paella by the beach; drink in old town bars.

  3. Day 8railovernight: Madrid

    Madrid

    Train to Madrid (2.5 hours). Highlights: visit the Museo del Prado; stroll the Rastro Flea Market; watch a Real Madrid match at the Bernabeu stadium.

  4. Day 11railovernight: Granada

    Granada

    Train to Granada (4 hours), in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Highlights: visit the Moorish palace of Alhambra; take a dip at the Arab baths; enjoy free tapas with drinks.

  5. Day 14overnight: Malaga

    Malaga

    Bus to Malaga (2 hours). Sun, sand and sea. Highlights: check out the historic Old Town; enjoy the nightlife; try water sports such as wakeboarding.

  6. Day 17railovernight: Seville

    Seville

    Train to Seville (2 hours). Highlights: visit the Alcazar Palace; experience Flamenco dances; drink on the terraces of an old town cafe.

  7. Day 20railovernight: Faro

    Faro

    Bus to Faro (4 hours). Highlights: relax on the beach; ride the Comboio Turistica tourist train; take a dolphin watching boat trip or cave tour.

  8. Day 22railovernight: Lisbon

    Lisbon

    Train to Lisbon (4 hours). Highlights: learn about Portugal's colonial past; climb cobbled streets to the castle; dance at the Music Box club.

  9. Day 25railovernight: Porto

    Porto
