Independent rail trip from Sorrento to Rome via the Amalfi Coast

Railbookers runs this 7-day independent rail vacation between two of southern Italy's most visited regions, opening with three nights in Sorrento. Small-group day tours cover the Amalfi Coast's Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello by mini-coach on day 2, then Capri and the Blue Grotto by boat on day 3. On day 4 a private transfer and a stop at the ruins of Pompeii lead to a direct train from Naples to Rome, where three more nights allow guided tours of the Colosseum and Roman Forum on day 5 and the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel on day 6 (replaced with a food tour if that day falls on a Sunday). With most sightseeing built around small-group tours rather than a full escort, the trip suits first-time rail travelers who want the logistics handled, history lovers drawn to Pompeii and ancient Rome, and food-and-wine travelers keen on Sorrento's Limoncello and coastal cuisine.
Welcome to Italy! Your journey to the Amalfi Coast begins with a private transfer from Naples Airport to your hotel in Sorrento. Enjoy a scenic drive along the coast before continuing to your Sorrento hotel. Spend the rest of your day at leisure.
Following breakfast, travel in an air-conditioned mini-coach along spectacular coastal roads, stopping to visit the region's three most popular and beautiful villages, Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello.
Set sail for Capri, a scenic island off the coast of Naples, known for its stunning beauty, luxurious atmosphere, and impressive cliffs. After exploring the island, experience the Blue Grotto, a sea cave famous for its intense blue light (weather permitting).
Your journey to Rome begins with a private transfer from your hotel in Sorrento to Naples station; stopping at the ruins of Pompeii for a few hours before arriving at Naples station. Then, take a direct train from Naples to Rome, and check in to your hotel in Rome for a two-night stay.
After breakfast, make your way over to the Colosseum for a guided tour of the famous amphitheater, then walk in the footsteps of ancient Romans once more with a guided stroll around the Roman Forum.
Today you will visit the Vatican in the heart of the city for a tour of the vast Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St Peter's. Note: Vatican has no access on Sundays for holy day, so this tour will be replaced with a food tour.
Check out of your hotel after breakfast this morning and continue with your travels. If you would like to extend your journey to another city, just ask your Rail Expert and we can help you make all the arrangements.
