Illustration of Simply Bavaria (Bavaria's Romantic Road All Inclusive)

Great Rail Journeys' Simply Bavaria tour is an eight-day all-inclusive escorted journey through southern Germany, departing London St Pancras on Eurostar and standard-class rail, ending in Paris. Guests stay for seven nights at the three-star Hotel Jägerhaus in Langenau, positioned at the heart of the Romantic Road. The itinerary balances guided excursions with free time: visitors tour the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavarian Alps, explore the medieval walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber on a guided walk, and travel to the lakeside island town of Lindau on Lake Constance. Day 5 offers a choice of independent exploration, with trains to nearby towns like Heidenheim, Aalen, or Stuttgart. A full day in Munich allows leisure time to visit the glockenspiel at Marienplatz, historic beer halls, and museums. All meals, train fares, and guided tours are included, making it well suited to first-time rail travellers, couples, and history enthusiasts who prefer guided comfort with built-in flexibility.

What to know before you look closer

  • Group size can reach 40 people, which may affect the intimacy of guided tours.
  • Hotel Jägerhaus is three-star; accommodation is comfortable but not upscale.
