Meet the Tour Manager and fellow travellers at London St Pancras and board the Eurostar to Brussels. Change trains in Brussels and travel via Cologne to Ulm, passing through picturesque German countryside. Transfer by coach from Ulm to Langenau, the base for the next seven nights. Enjoy a three-course dinner with selected beer, wine and soft drinks at the hotel.

Get acquainted with Langenau after breakfast. Visit the medieval Martinkirche church, the Cultural Centre or Museum of Local History. Optional excursions to nearby Ulm (Gothic minster with world's tallest church steeple, Danube riverbank, historic rathaus) or the Steiff teddy bear museum in Giengen. Travel to the island town of Lindau on the edge of Lake Constance, with a stunning backdrop of the Swiss and Austrian Alps. Free time to explore the historical centre around the market square, including the 16th-century Haus zum Cavazzen palace. Option to take a lake cruise or walk along the harbour to visit the 12th-century Mangturm lighthouse. Enjoy picnic lunch in the lakeside parks. Return to Langenau for dinner.

Travel by coach to the alpine village of Hohenschwangau and walk up the hill for a guided tour of Neuschwanstein Castle, built by King Ludwig II in the 19th century. Enjoy picnic lunches before continuing to Füssen, the southern end of the Romantic Road. Explore the quaint streets and pastel-hued medieval buildings, the Benedictine monastery or the late-Gothic castle. Return to hotel for dinner.

Free day to explore Langenau and nearby towns. Options include Günzberg on the Danube with its historic marketplace and Lego City, Heidenheim (35 minutes by train) with Hellenstein Castle, Aalen's Limesmuseum with Roman artefacts, historic Ellwangen with its Romanesque basilica and Baroque castle, or Stuttgart with its Porsche and Mercedes-Benz museums. Picnic lunch provided. Return to hotel for dinner and drinks.

Visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of Germany's best preserved medieval towns. A guided tour of the Old Town showcases the market square, grand town hall, Plönlein, and St Jakob's church with its 500-year-old altarpiece. Free time after the tour to enjoy picnic lunch and explore museums, shops selling traditional Bavarian wares, and the Turmweg walkable route along the 12th-century fortifications. Return to hotel for dinner.

Rail travel included to Munich. Explore Bavaria's capital at leisure: Marienplatz with the neo-Gothic Town Hall, Frauenkirche cathedral, the glockenspiel, historic beer halls, Oktoberfest Museum, Höfbrauhaus, Hofgarten Renaissance gardens, Munich Residence, and the English Garden. Return to Langenau for final evening of dinner and drinks.

Leave Langenau after breakfast and transfer by coach to Ulm. Travel by rail to Paris and switch to the Eurostar service to London St Pancras.
