Rome to the Sorrento coast by rail, six days

Railbookers operates this 6-day independent rail vacation between Rome and Sorrento, spending two nights in Rome and three on the Sorrento coast. Day 1 in Rome includes a Vatican visit, ice cream by the Trevi Fountain, and a Colosseum visit, and day 2 adds an Imperial Rome tour of the Forum and Colosseum with time at the Spanish Steps or Villa Borghese. On day 3, a train carries travelers from Rome to Naples, where a private driver takes over for a scenic coastal drive to Sorrento. Day 4 is free to explore Sorrento's piazzas and try Limoncello or Sorrentine cuisine, and for travelers going between March and October, day 5 adds a small-group tour of the ruins of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. Outside the included tours, days are self-directed, which suits independent travelers who want to pair a few days of Roman history with a shorter, relaxed stay on the Sorrento coast.
