Rockies Essentials: Westbound

6-day Rocky Mountaineer rail trip from Banff to Vancouver, westbound

Rockies Essentials: Westbound, a rail journey with Canada Rail (canadarail.ca)

Canada Rail Vacations operates this 6-day independent tour, the westbound version of its Essentials package, running from Banff to Vancouver by way of Lake Louise and Kamloops. After a scenic transfer from Calgary into Banff and a guided tour that includes the Sulphur Mountain gondola, the route crosses into Yoho National Park, passing Takakkaw Falls, Kicking Horse Pass and Emerald Lake on the way to a night at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Two of the six days are then spent aboard the Rocky Mountaineer in SilverLeaf or GoldLeaf service, first past the Spiral Tunnels and Rogers Pass, then on a final day that crosses Hell's Gate before reaching Vancouver. It suits travelers who want the core Rockies rail-and-sightseeing route in under a week, starting inland at Banff rather than on the coast, without the longer stops or extra add-on cities found on this operator's longer circle packages.
