Seven-day independent rail trip along Germany's North Sea and Baltic coasts

railtour suisse runs this seven-day, six-night independent rail trip along Germany's North Sea and Baltic coasts, from Cuxhaven to the Hanseatic city of Stralsund by way of St. Peter-Ording. Each stop gets two nights in a 4-star hotel, with a travel day in between: a nearly 6-hour train ride to St. Peter-Ording, with an optional stop in Hamburg, and a journey of just over 7 hours on to Stralsund on the Baltic Sea. The days at each stop are left free, whether that means walking Cuxhaven's beach promenade to the 'Alte Liebe' viewing platform, an optional night walk through the St. Peter-Ording national park, or cycling the Bodden coast around Stralsund's island regions. This suits independent travellers, including those going solo, who want a relaxed, self-guided coastal trip with two full nights at each stop rather than a fast-moving schedule.
Individual arrival by train to Cuxhaven. You will love the city because it offers a unique maritime flair. Kilometres of beaches, the fascinating Wadden Sea and the magnificent, beautiful beach promenade.
Breakfast at the hotel. Take some time for yourself today. Walk along the beach, stroll along the promenade, hire a bicycle or visit the World Heritage Centre and see all the creatures crawling and creeping around in the mudflats. Also, don't forget the historic, two-storey viewing platform, the 'Alte Liebe' is one of the most popular sights. Be sure to include it in your plans.
Breakfast at the hotel and then on by train to St. Peter-Ording. Enjoy the almost 6-hour train journey to St. Peter-Ording. You will be amazed by the diversity of the landscapes. Let yourself be impressed by the variety and beauty or make an additional short stop in Hamburg. Free time.
Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy the hotel's wonderful wellness facilities and take a walk along the 12-kilometre-long beach. Or hire a bike and explore the area on your own. Beach, sand and dunes as far as the eye can see. Tip: Take a night walk in the national park, because you will discover so much on this night walk across the pier. Lighthouses, learn to spot the North Star or listen to the birds singing. Duration approx. 1½ hours. (Bookable on site for approx. CHF 10 per person).
Breakfast at the hotel and onward journey to Stralsund on the Baltic Sea. In just over seven hours by train, you will arrive at the Baltic Sea. This train journey will delight you once again. Narrow streets, colourful gables, romantic brick buildings – this is the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. Free time or take a short detour to the Ozeanum (bookable on site, approx. CHF 20 per person).
Breakfast at the hotel. Stralsund is located in the middle of the island paradises of Rügen, Hiddensee, Usedom and Fischland-Darss-Zingst, nestled in the picturesque landscape of the Vorpommern Bodden coast. Stralsund combines tradition and modernity and attracts visitors between the sea and the countryside. Just cycle away and enjoy these beautiful landscapes. Tip: With a total length of four kilometres, the Rügen Bridge is currently Germany's longest bridge.
Breakfast at the hotel. Individual journey home. Saying goodbye is always hard, but you'll be back for sure, or extend your holiday by a few days. Come back and see us again, see you soon.
