8-day tailor-made rail trip from Lisbon to the Algarve coast
Cox & Kings · Tailor-Made Journey
Seven days in Porto and Lisbon, connected by the Alfa Pendular high-speed train

Cox & Kings' seven-day tailor-made journey pairs Portugal's second city with its capital, connected by the Alfa Pendular high-speed train. You begin in Porto with three nights at the Hospes Infante de Sagres, a luxury property in the UNESCO-listed historical centre. A guided morning walk introduces the Clérigos Tower and riverside Ribeira district; on day 3 you are free to explore further or take an optional cruise through the wine-producing Douro valley. On day 4, the high-speed train carries you south to Lisbon in under three hours. Your next three nights are at the Palácio do Governador, with a morning tour of the Portuguese capital's architecture, museums, and restaurants, followed by leisure time to wander the city on foot or aboard its famous yellow trams. International flights, private transfers, and an English-speaking representative (if required) complete the package.
Transfer to the Hotel Infante de Sagres, a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, for a three-night stay.
Enjoy a morning walking tour of Porto, starting from your hotel. Portugal's second largest city was built overlooking the mouth of the Douro river – an outstanding urban landscape with a UNESCO-listed historical centre. Highlights include the Clérigos Tower, Avenida dos Aliados and the Ribera district on the shoreline.
Your day is at leisure to further explore Porto. Alternatively, take a cruise in the bucolic Douro valley, famed for its production of wine and port.
Your morning is at leisure. In the early afternoon, take the Alfa Pendular high-speed train to Lisbon (a journey of approximately three hours). On arrival, transfer to the Palácio do Governador for a three-night stay.
Take a morning tour of the Portuguese capital with a driver-guide. Enjoy Lisbon's colourful architecture, world-class museums and excellent restaurants. We recommend making time to explore the National Tile Museum, and the Lisbon Aquarium in Parque das Nações.
Your day is at leisure to enjoy Lisbon. Explore the city on foot, or aboard one of the capital's iconic yellow trams. Alternatively, take a day excursion to Sintra Palace and Cascais.
Transfer to Lisbon airport and catch your departure flight home.
