7-day independent rail trip from Munich through Vienna to Prague

Railbookers runs this 7-day, 6-night independent rail vacation from Munich through Vienna to Prague, with two nights booked in each city. Munich opens with a 2-hour guided walking tour of the Old Town, taking in the Old Town Hall, St Peter's Church, and the Munich Residenz. The train on to Vienna comes with a 48-hour hop-on-hop-off bus pass, giving flexible access to sights such as the Schonbrunn and Belvedere Palaces. In Prague, a City Card valid for three days covers entry to Prague Castle and other top attractions, alongside a stroll through the Old Town to see the Astronomical Clock. Because it is an independent trip, travelers use these included passes and the Munich tour on their own schedule rather than following a group leader throughout. It suits travelers who want a guided start in Munich paired with flexible, self-paced sightseeing in Vienna and Prague.
Welcome to Munich! Upon arrival, check into your hotel for a two-night stay. Perhaps dine at the hotel's restaurant this evening before retiring for a good night's rest.
After breakfast take in the best bits of the Bavarian capital on your 2-hour walking tour of Munich's Old Town. Admire architectural wonders like the Old Town Hall, St Peter's Church and the Munich Residenz; stroll through the lively Viktualienmarkt; and see the world-famous Hofbrauhaus beer hall. Accompanied by an expert guide, you'll have ample opportunities to learn more about Munich's history, cultural heritage and beer-brewing legacy, while walking between the central squares of Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz.
After breakfast, take the train from Munich to Vienna. Upon arrival, make your way to your hotel and check in for a two-night stay. Spend the afternoon getting to know this beautiful imperial city. With your included 48-hour Hop-on, Hop-off bus pass, exploring Vienna is both convenient and scenic. Enjoy the flexibility to visit major landmarks and attractions at your own pace while learning about the city's history through onboard commentary. Maybe treat yourself to a delicious slice of Sachertorte at a traditional Viennese café and enjoy some people watching.
Spend a day seeing the sights of Vienna. St. Stephen's Cathedral is well worth a visit, situated in the heart of the city. Follow in the footsteps of the Habsburgs with a visit to the splendid baroque Schonbrunn and Belvedere Palaces. Discover one of the city's many exciting museums such as the Museum of Fine Arts or Hundertwasser's funky Kunsthaus and perhaps take in a performance at the Spanish Riding School.
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel and then make your way to the station for the journey from Vienna to Prague. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. Once settled into your accommodations, take a stroll through the Old Town and admire the stunning Astronomical Clock and then enjoy an evening meal in one of the city's restaurants.
After breakfast, continue your exploration of Prague. With the Prague city card, save time and money with access to the city's top attractions. The card is valid for three days from your first day of use, and you have the option to include public transportation, if you wish. The best place to start is Prague Castle, the largest castle in the world where Kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman Emperors and Czech presidents have all at one time had their offices. The building dates to the 9th century and offers a mix of almost every architectural style in the last millennium. There are also many museums to choose from, including the National Museum (for history) and the National Gallery, the second oldest art gallery in Europe after the Louvre in Paris.
After breakfast this morning, check out of your hotel and continue with your travels. If you wish to extend your journey, perhaps with an additional day in a different city, one of our Rail Vacation Specialists will be happy to assist you with the details.
