Six-week self-guided rail journey from Crete to Porto through five countries

Illustration of Mediterranean Wanderer: 6 Weeks

Mediterranean Wanderer is Euroventure's 42-day self-guided rail journey linking 15 cities across Greece, Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal. Departing from Crete and ending in Porto, the trip uses trains and ferries to move between destinations, with two to four nights in each city. You navigate independently using walking directions and a personalised booklet; optional activities at partner hostels and hotels are available but not required. All rail and ferry tickets, seat reservations, accommodation in tested hotels or hostels, and 1GB of eSIM data are included, along with 24-hour emergency phone support. The itinerary balances cultural exploration (Acropolis, Colosseum, Sagrada Familia) with beach time, local food, and day trips such as Cinque Terre and the Douro River. This suits first-time independent rail travellers seeking flexibility, budget-conscious explorers, and food-focused visitors who value both structure and freedom.
