3-day luxury Royal Scotsman night train through the Scottish Highlands

Discovery Trains runs this 3-day, 2-night luxury circuit aboard the Royal Scotsman, the Belmond night train, starting and ending in Edinburgh. After departing at 1:45pm on day 1, the train crosses the former kingdom of Fife and into the Highlands, with dinner and entertainment in the observation car before stopping overnight at Boat of Garten. Day 2 brings a coach outing to the Rothiemurchus estate in Cairngorms National Park for clay pigeon shooting, fishing, or a tour of the grounds, a private visit to the Culloden battlefield, and a stop at the Strathisla distillery, one of Scotland's oldest still in operation, before a gala dinner as the train continues to Dundee for the second night. A quiet breakfast on day 3 precedes the return to Edinburgh at around 9:30am. Both cabins have a private bathroom, and the Grande Suite adds a private lounge and spa treatment. It suits travellers who want a short, fully catered Highlands trip built around named estates and distilleries rather than a longer touring itinerary.
