Guided tour of Stockholm, the 'city between the bridges'
A guided sightseeing tour introduces us to Stockholm's history, taking in City Hall, the Royal Palace, Östermalm, Långholm, Djurgården and the Old Town, Gamla Stan, with a stop for 'fika'. The afternoon is free to explore, perhaps visiting the Vasa Museum.

To lakeside Östersund
This morning, we board an InterCity train to Östersund for an overnight stay, on the shores of Storsjön Lake. Free time to visit Frösön island's runestone or the Jamtli Museum before dinner at our hotel.
Day 4railovernight: Arjeplog
Through Swedish Lapland to a Sámi village
After an early breakfast, we begin a leisurely train journey on the scenic Inlandsbanan north through Swedish Lapland to Sorsele, visiting the Inlandsbanan Museum before travelling by coach to a nearby Sámi village. We continue to our hotel for the next two nights in Arjeplog, enjoying an authentic Sámi dinner in a tipi around a campfire.

Into the Arctic Circle for a Sámi experience
An all-day excursion by coach to the remote Sámi town of Jokkmokk, crossing the Arctic Circle with a small ceremony to mark the entry. We visit the Ájtte Sámi Museum before heading back across the Arctic Circle to Arjeplog in time for dinner.

The Silver Road to Bodø, northern Norway
Our journey continues by coach along the Silver Road (Silvervägen) to the Norwegian town of Bodø, passing the Arjeplog mountains and Saltdal Fjord. On arrival, we visit the Norwegian Jekt Trade Museum before an afternoon at leisure and dinner at our hotel.

The Polar Express to Viking Trondheim
A leisurely morning in Bodø before we set out on the Nordlandsbanen, Norway's longest train route, nicknamed the 'Polar Express', crossing the Arctic Circle and passing the Svartisen Glacier. Arriving in Trondheim late this evening, we take a short walk to our central hotel.

Guided tour of Trondheim, the ancient Viking capital
A guided tour of Trondheim's Old Quarter and the waterfront houses of Bakklandet, and the Royal Residence, the largest wooden building in northern Europe. The rest of the day is free to explore, perhaps visiting Nidaros Cathedral.
Day 10railovernight: Geiranger
Aboard the spectacular Rauma Railway
A journey by rail, road and ferry to Geiranger. Leaving Trondheim by train to Dombås, we change onto the Rauma Railway, crossing the Kylling Bridge and viewing the Verma waterfall and Trollveggen in the Romsdalen Valley. We travel by coach up the Troll's Ladder and cross Norddalsfjord by ferry to reach Geiranger.
Day 11overnight: Geiranger
Cruising Norway's superb Geirangerfjord
After breakfast, we embark on a fjord cruise across the UNESCO World Heritage Geirangerfjord. Disembarking in Hellesylt, we take a scenic drive to Hornindalsvatn, Europe's deepest lake, before returning to Geiranger for dinner.
Day 12overnight: Flåm
A journey through Norway's fjord country to Flåm
We continue by coach to Flåm, stopping at the Dalsnibba viewing point over Geirangerfjord and the Kaupanger Stave Church (or Hopperstad Stave Church on some dates), crossing the Sognefjord by ferry from Mannheller before reaching our four-star hotel in Flåm.

A fjord cruise and a ride on the Flåm Railway
