Illustration of Glorious Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast & Eternal Rome

Vacations By Rail's nine-day escorted tour pairs Rome's ancient monuments with the coastal charm of southern Italy. You begin with two nights in Rome, where a guided tour covers the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Piazza Navona, with free time for the Vatican and Spanish Steps. On Day 3, you travel First Class by Frecciargento train to Naples, then coach to Sorrento, your base for six nights at the four-star Hilton Sorrento Palace. From there, excursions include a train journey to the archaeological ruins of Pompeii, a boat cruise along the Amalfi Coast stopping at Positano and Amalfi, and a visit to Herculaneum followed by lunch at a family farm. Day 4 and Day 7 are free to wander Sorrento's streets, swim in the hotel pool, or take an optional boat trip to Capri. A Tour Manager accompanies you throughout. The itinerary balances guided experiences with leisure time, suiting escorted-tour travellers who want structure and cultural depth without a packed schedule.
