Alpine rail journey on the Glacier Express from Chur to Zermatt
railtour suisse · Rail journey (group travel)
Glacier Express panoramic train St. Moritz to Zermatt, two Alpine hotels.

Railtour suisse operates this 3-day group journey on the Glacier Express, one of the world's most celebrated panoramic trains. Departing St. Moritz and arriving in Zermatt (or vice versa), the tour divides your time between two Alpine resorts and the 8-hour train journey that connects them. Day 1 brings you to St. Moritz for a guided walk through this upscale resort town, with an optional visit to the Segantini Museum. Day 2 is spent almost entirely on the Glacier Express, where wide panoramic windows frame the Alps as the train crosses 291 bridges and 91 tunnels, climbs to the Oberalp Pass at 2,033 metres, and descends into the Valais. Meals are served at your seat. On Day 3, you explore Zermatt's charming village lanes with a guide, then have the option to ride the Gornergratbahn cogwheel railway up to 3,089 metres for views of Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn. The tour suits repeat rail travellers, couples, photographers, and anyone who values guided structure combined with time in two distinct mountain destinations.
Train journey to St. Moritz. In the afternoon, a guided walk to discover the famous chic and sporty resort. Possibility of including a visit to the Segantini Museum, dedicated to the Italian artist and whose architecture, just outside the village, is reminiscent of a mausoleum. For dinner, how about a restaurant in the hills with a unique panoramic view?
In the morning, you'll board the Glacier Express for a fantastic journey through the splendid Alpine scenery. Everything has been designed with your comfort in mind, from the wide panoramic windows to the meal served in the seat. After a stopover in Andermatt, the train reaches the Valais and Zermatt, arriving there in the late afternoon. For your evening meal, we recommend a restaurant serving Valais specialities.
Discover the charming village of Zermatt on a stroll through its pretty lanes. At the end of the morning, make your way to the Gornergratbahn station: from Zermatt at an altitude of 1,604 metres, Switzerland's oldest cogwheel railway takes you up to the Gornergrat at 3,089 metres. Here you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama with Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn in the background. Lunch can be taken in the panoramic restaurant facing the glaciers. In the afternoon, return to Zermatt and then by train.
