Four-day Class 01 Pacific steam special tour from Nuremberg

Illustration of German 01 Pacific Steam Spectacular 2026

Railtrail Tours runs this short, four-day steam tour based in Nuremberg, Germany, built around the double-headed Class 01 Pacific locomotives of the Oberfranken Express. After travelling by Eurostar and rail from London St Pancras on day 1, day 2 is given over to a three-hour main-line steam run to Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg and a ride up the steeply graded Schiefe Ebene incline, with time at the German Steam Locomotive Museum. Day 3 turns to the Frankische Schweiz Railway, a steam-hauled run through the Wiesenttal to Behringersmühle, followed by a guided tour of Nuremberg's DB Museum, the oldest railway museum in Germany. Activity level is listed as Moderate. Only breakfast is included at the Ibis Hotel, so evenings are free to arrange independently. This short break suits repeat rail travellers and steam enthusiasts who want a concentrated dose of German main-line steam rather than a longer touring holiday.
