Rail journey through four historic Northeast cities, Boston to Washington DC

Essential American Heritage, a rail journey with Amtrak Vacations

Amtrak Vacations operates this 8-day independent rail vacation along the northeast corridor, starting in Boston and finishing in Washington, DC, with stops in New York City and Philadelphia. Guests travel between cities on the Northeast Regional train in Coach class and explore each stop using included hop-on, hop-off sightseeing passes rather than a tour manager. The days lean toward American history: Boston's Freedom Trail and CityPASS attractions, New York's Empire State Building and museums, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, and a two-day bus tour of Washington, DC that covers the Smithsonian, the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. Boston, New York and Washington each get two nights, while Philadelphia is a single overnight stop. This trip suits travelers with an interest in American history and founding-era sites who want a self-guided, city-to-city rail itinerary with the sightseeing already arranged, rather than a guide traveling with them throughout.
