Travel on one of Europe's most spectacular rail journeys travelling from Belgrade in Serbia to Bar in Montenegro. Book with Regent, over 50 years' experience.
Arrive in Belgrade and transfer to hotel. Check in for three nights.
Today explore Belgrade on a half day city tour. Visit the impressive St Sava Orthodox Cathedral, Kalemegdan Fortress and the city's main shopping area along Knez Mihailova Street.
Consider venturing out of Belgrade to explore Novi Sad and the Fruska Gora region on an organized excursion (not included), home to 16 medieval monasteries and the town of Sremski Karlovci. Alternatively, spend the day exploring Belgrade at your leisure.
This morning, transfer to Belgrade Train Station for a day train to Bar (Tara - only operates mid June-mid Sept) or explore Belgrade before boarding the overnight train (Lovcen). The Tara has older 2nd class carriages and a cafe-bar waggon. The overnight sleeper offers 4 and 6 berth couchettes and compartments with washbasins; there is now a change of train at Bijelo Polje between Montenegrin & Serbian trains. Upon arrival in Bar, transfer to your hotel for a four-night stay.
If taking the sleeper train, arrive around 08:00 and transfer to the hotel. Free day to relax at the hotel, on the beach or further explore the area.
Free day to relax or explore the surrounding area. The old town of Bar (Stari Bar) is located a few miles from the coastal city, at the foot of Mt Rumija, with fortress ruins and one of the oldest olive trees in the world.
Free day to relax or explore the coast further, perhaps hiring a car or driver to head up the coast to popular Budva and the riviera or further south to Ulcinj and the Ada Bojana delta.
This morning, transfer to Podgorica Airport for flight back to the UK.
